The ATIS Hearing Aid Compatibility (“HAC”) Task Force brought together key stakeholders to make recommendations to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on the achievability of requiring 100 percent HAC compliance for all wireless handsets.
On December 16, 2022, the Task Force completed its mission and submitted its Final Report and Recommendation to the FCC.
In accordance with the Final Report and Recommendation, ATIS also filed a petition (Petition for Waiver) seeking limited, interim adjustments of certain HAC requirements on behalf of covered entities on the Task Force. This interim measure will allow more wireless handsets to satisfy the testing methodology for achieving hearing aid compatibility, while ensuring increased amplification for consumers that use hearing devices.
This effort was convened on behalf of the Competitive Carriers Association (CCA), CTIA – The Wireless Industry Association, the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDI) and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA).
